  2. First ever Green GB Week date announced

Comments Off on First ever Green GB Week date announced

The Business Secretary, Greg Clark has announced that the UK will be having it’s first annual Green GB Week will take place from the 15th October.

The week, which is being organised by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, will see businesses and civic society organisations come together to promote the opportunities of clean growth.

This year marks 10 years since the Climate Change Agreement was signed and aims to show how businesses and the general public can contribute to reducing emissions and improve quality of life as part of the Clean Growth Grand Challenge under the Industrial Strategy.

At Act on Energy we are firmly behind the idea of a more prominent public promotion towards the idea of clean growth for the future. We shall, of course, announce further updates on this development as they happen.

  3. Warwickshire Switch and Save!

Comments Off on Warwickshire Switch and Save!

Are you worried about your energy bills getting too hot to handle this summer? Or perhaps the idea of changing your energy supplier is giving you cold feet?

If you think either of the above statements concern you, then why not sign up for the Warwickshire County Council’s Switch and Save? The scheme is brought to you by Act on Energy and iChoosr, the specialist collective switching organisation. iChoosr have helped over 650,000 households in the UK since 2012 saving on average £243 per household.

The process is simple, you can register online or you can contact our freephone advice line. Once you are registered, iChoosr will contact you to confirm your registration. On May 22nd iChoosr will hold an auction with the energy suppliers whereby they will bid for the number of registered applicants. Once an energy supplier has won the bid by offering the lowest price per customer, iChoosr will contact applicants informing them whether the winning bid is cheaper than their existing bill or not. Applicants then have the option of confirming their intention to switch or staying with their current provider. It’s that simple! iChoosr and Act on Energy will do all of the legwork for you. All you need to do is have the details of your bill handy.

If you are interested in signing up for the scheme you can click here or alternatively, if you, or someone you know, does not have access to the internet, you can call Act on Energy, your local energy advice charity on 0800 988 2881  for offline registrations. All of our staff are fully trained and are glad to  explain the scheme to you in more detail and help you through the registration process.

If you live outside of this area you may still be able to join a scheme – click here to find out more.

  4. We have been nominated for an award!

Comments Off on We have been nominated for an award!

If you thought it was time to roll away the red carpet last week with the Oscars you were wrong, because we are making a late entry this awards season!

Act on Energy has been nominated for the 2018 Regional Vulnerable Customer Support Campaigner of the Year Award at this year’s West Midlands Regional Energy Efficiency Awards. This is to recognise an organisation who ‘has shown true commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable people through energy efficiency in their region.’

We are competing against three other worthy challengers but with our experience of front-line work in the community providing funding support for heating system installations for vulnerable people, assisting residents with price comparisons for energy bills and educating communities about the importance of reducing fuel poverty in our country, means we believe a win for Act on Energy would be an important statement in recognising the importance of our work.

The finals take place on Thursday 22nd of March. Best of luck to all entries and lets hope for an Act on Energy win!

  5. Boilers, insulation, energy bills & more at Bromsgrove Pensioners Fair!

Comments Off on Boilers, insulation, energy bills & more at Bromsgrove Pensioners Fair!

Act on Energy is attending Sajid Javid’s Bromsgrove Pensioners Fair on Friday November 3rd and we felt it was high time for a little reminder about what we do and most importantly, how we can help you in Bromsgrove.

    What we do in Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove has one of the highest percentages of excess winter deaths in Worcestershire, with an increased winter mortality rate of 24% in 2015 compared to the previous year. As your local energy advice charity, we are determined to tackle these numbers with help from Bromsgrove District Council and Worcestershire County Council. We have already made a significant impact as part of our work with local authorities as outlined in the Bromsgrove Council Plan 2017-2020, fuel poverty in Worcestershire has reduced from 12.6% in 2011 to 9.1% in 2014. This is of course a marked improvement but further work is needed.

    How we can help you

We offer a variety of services and ways in which we can help you. Our priority is to ensure that people are keeping warm and healthy as those chilly winter nights start to settle in. We work very closely with Bromsgrove District Council and Worcestershire County Council as well as many other organisations to administer services such as:

    • A Freephone helpline available 9-5 Monday to Friday for general energy efficiency queries or further advice about any of our schemes and projects.
    • Heating system repairs/replacements/installations for those on means tested benefits or a low income.
    • Free advice and assistance on dealing with your energy bills – including debt relief advice and price comparisons.
    • Tips and hints for dealing with problems with damp, mould and condensation.
    • Free advice surgeries and drop in sessions across Bromsgrove, Redditch and Worcestershire. Come and see us in person to see how we can help you.
    • Presentations to the public and professionals on all of the above plus information and myth-busting about smart meters.

We are here to help you. If you feel you need any advice or assistance call us, free on 0800 988 2881.
