All about us

About Us

We may have got energy in our name – but it’s people at the heart of our organisation. Because our vision of eliminating fuel poverty and reducing carbon emissions is good for everyone – and our planet.

That’s why we work tirelessly with our partners and local communities to tackle the causes of fuel poverty and help mitigate the impacts – all whilst helping to drive the net zero agenda.

We are a team of qualified energy advisors providing case work support over the telephone

Our story

Our journey began as Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (WEEAC) in 1998 established by Stratford on Avon District Council.

WEEAC assisted the District Council in meeting their obligations under the Home Energy Conservation Act 1995 and was part of the Energy Saving Trust network of 52 sub-regional centres, providing energy advice across the whole United Kingdom.

We became independent of the Council in April 1999 but continued to work with central and local government and social landlords to achieve their energy efficiency, sustainable energy and affordable warmth objectives.

In 2008 we celebrated our ten year anniversary and marked the event by rebranding the charity as Act on Energy.

This new name reflected our vision as a future thinking organisation and desire to promote ourselves as more than solely an advice organisation.

Since then we’ve continued to expand our remit. Whether that’s helping people in fuel poverty – or advising on retrofitting their homes, we’ve helped thousands of people with their energy needs.

And in the last couple of years in particular, our help has been needed more than ever, as the energy and cost of living crisis took hold.

Our Mission

We strive to engage with householders to support them through their energy journey offering a full home energy support service and free, impartial advice with the householder at the centre of all that we do.

We put YOU at the heart of everything we do

What we do

We believe that everyone has the right to live in a warm and comfortable home without fear of paying too much for the energy they need. We help people across the West Midlands, Worcestershire and Warwickshire with their energy needs by offering a full home energy support service with free and impartial advice.

Whether that’s helping people living in fuel poverty – or supporting others with retrofit advice – and everything in between. Our work covers a wide range of services from energy bill advice, referrals for physical energy efficiency measures, switching advice, grant availability and onwards referrals to other agencies if appropriate.

We can also conduct home visits to give personalised advice; attend local exhibitions and events to promote energy efficiency; develop school projects that involve the whole community; develop and carry outlocal schemes for rural and urban communities and local businesses. We also advise on retrofitting energy efficiency measures for your home.

Our funders include national, regional and local authorities as well as charities, health professionals and partners within the energy sector. We work with several organisations and provide a range of services such as advice, consultancy, conferencing and training in order to support people in our local communities and to meet their needs of affordable warmth and energy.

As a not for profit and registered environmental charity, we work across the West Midlands covering Worcestershire, Warwickshire and the 7 local authorities which make up the West Midlands Combined Authority.
