Welcome to our second newsletter round up.
As we head into winter, we’ve already seen a price hike with the energy price cap increasing by nearly 10%.
We know that the energy crisis isn’t over. For so many of our residents they will continue to wrestle with whether to turn the heating on at all – let alone turn it down.
But there is some help available.
We offer a freephone helpline to anyone in our area who is struggling with their energy bills – even just talking through the issues can be a lifeline to many.
But we do have funding pots that we can access to help those most in need and our team of dedicated outreach officers can also help in the most vulnerable and complex cases.
But of course, the cheapest energy is the energy we don’t use.
That’s why we’re also encouraging people to contact us to find out what funding is available to help them make their home warmer and safer this winter – and beyond.
As our professional partners, you’re very much at the heart of the support we offer, so please do refer through any residents that you feel would benefit from our free help. Make a Referral | Act On Energy
Thanks so much for your support.

We have been awarded more than £1 million of funding to help people right across the West Midlands region keep warm and well this winter and beyond. This will allow us to offer advice and support to the most vulnerable residents, through an impartial, free-to-use service that will build on four years of successful delivery.
Radio Teleswitching Service (also known as Dynamically Teleswitched Energy) are meters with a built-in radio that uses Longwave radio signals to communicate readings to the supplier. The equipment that transmits this signal can no longer be maintained, so it’s being turned off nationally on 30th June 2025.
The energy price cap has now risen by 10%. That means that for a ‘typical’ dual fuel customer, the bill will be about £1,717 per year – up from the previous £1,568.
We have been awarded with £700,000 to help deliver energy saving advice to people who are at risk of re-admission to Birmingham hospitals. This new service is working in partnership with Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Charity (BCHC) and funded by the Cadent Foundation, as part of the wider Direct Access to Wellbeing Services (DAWS) project.
We’re hosting a series of special events ahead of the colder weather to support residents with expert energy advice.
You’ll be very welcome at our ‘Winter is Coming’ events – whether you want advice and help with energy bills or energy debt; want some tips on how to use energy wisely – or want advice on energy efficiency measures and funding.
What’s more, at many of the events, we’ll be inviting our partners to also attend so that you can visit the one-stop shop for a range of advice from housing and health to food banks and benefits checks.
Check on the links below for more info about each event – we look forward to seeing you there.
We’re delighted to share with you our latest round up of what we’ve been up to at Act on Energy. It’s just a snapshot of the great work the team have been involved with, so please do check out our new website for more information.
Hope you find this thought provoking – let me know what you think.

From tackling high levels of fuel poverty, stagnating energy efficiency improvements and preparing our infrastructure for a decarbonised future, no one can deny the scale of the issues facing the new government. The proof of course, is in the proverbial, but the direction is certainly welcomed.
The West Midlands has the unenviable title of the highest proportion of fuel poor households England. There’s a lot to tackle – so we were delighted to welcome newly appointed West Midlands Mayor, Richard Parker, to our new offices in the centre of Birmingham to learn more about our work in helping to address fuel poverty.
The Home Upgrade Grant (HUGs) is the latest government-funded energy efficiency scheme available for people who don’t use mains gas to heat their home. The grant can pay for a range of energy efficiency measures including insulation and heating upgrades.
