The Home Upgrade Grant (HUGs) is the latest government-funded energy efficiency scheme available for people who don’t use mains gas to heat their home. The grant can pay for a range of energy efficiency measures including insulation and heating upgrades.

We’re supporting Local Authorities across our region to help deliver the scheme. The idea behind the scheme is laudable – not only will people have warmer, safer homes but we’re also saving carbon.

But it’s fair to say that the processes involved has been complex – and engaging customers with that level of uncertainty and bureaucracy has been challenging. And it’s a slow process – the latest data shows that nationally only 1100 properties have been upgraded under the HUG scheme.

Fortunately, for the people who have gone through the process – the outcomes have been worth the wait. You can hear from one such family who we helped with Solihull MBC, who are brimming with enthusiasm about their air source heat pump and roof-top solar panels.
